NUMBERS IN FENG SHUI
Numbers represent energy patterns. You can use the number of objects placed in a room to create a specific energy. For example, one lit candle may evoke the energy of ‘enlightenment' while two lit candles evokes the energy of passion and romance. Be creative when using numbers in feng shui. First determine the energy you desire to create, then review the environment to see if that energy is already there, or does it need to be added to or subtracted from, such as adding that second candle to a bedroom.
Even numbers create yin energy. Yin energy slows things down, it is predictable, structured and safe. Odd numbers create yang energy. Yang energy expands, is social, fun and creative.
One: Single, alone, separate, original. Take notice of how many single objects are in your living space. This is especially important to take a look at if you are currently ‘single' and would like to be in a relationship. One is the number for wisdom and knowledge, so in the wisdom and knowledge area, add one chair, one solid desk, one pillow, one print of a lone eagle soaring high above the rest, one big candle. One signifies independence.
Two: Two in the number for intimate relationships. Partners. The number two draws people together. For strengthening relationships decorate in twos, pairs, such as two chairs, two lamps, two candles, two pieces of fruit on a plate, two chocolate kisses on the nightstand, two flowers in a vase. Also think in groupings of two, such as two pieces of artwork on the wall, two pillows on the bed, two lovebirds. Remember, when arranging objects of two, make sure they are ‘facing' one another. This is especially important when hanging artwork, regardless of the subject in the artwork, make sure they do not have their backs to one another.
Three: Three, the triangle energy, fire energy, heaven, man, and earth, mind, body and spirit. Three is the number for fame and reputation, so add groupings of three to the fame and reputation area to ‘heat' things up and shine brightly. Threes are optimistic and uplifting. Three is not the best number for the bedroom as it is a triangular energy, so review the bedroom for groupings of three that can be pared down to groupings of two. Because three is also fire energy, take a look at the wealth area of the home, whose element is wood. Fire burns wood so too many threes in the wealth area could be depleting finances.
Four: Four represents earth energy. Symmetrical. It is stable, secure, safe, and feels like home. Four chairs around the table, four legs supporting the table, four posts supporting a bed. Four holds the energy of a square. Furniture arranged in a square feels like a safe place. File cabinets with four drawers will encourage organization. You can use groupings of four to slow down and stabilize energy.
Five: Fives are fun. Five represents energy which is social, active, adventuresome and creative. Fives represent movement both in and out, freedom. Fives are stimulating, asymmetrical, not the energy of security and comfort. Fives are best in small quantities for added excitement. Think five candles, five pieces of artwork hanging on a wall. Add groupings of five to add a little spice to your life.
Six: Six represents grounding and family. Six is the number for human respect and support. Six brings harmony. Six energy is symmetrical and brings the energy of balance – think of a cube. Six is values beauty and ease, add six flowers to a vase, six glasses on a buffet.
Seven: Seven energy is mystical, spiritual and connects us to a deeper level of understanding. Seven represents transformation of self. Seven candles, seven flowers in a vase, seven books. Use the number seven is grouping to align yourself with your personal spirituality.
Eight: Eight is the number representing material wealth and abundance. Eight is the money maker. Add the energy of abundance by creating groupings of eight, especially in the wealth area, as well as, in the entry, and career area of the home. Eight coins on a red cloth, eight bills framed, eight stones in your water feature, eight fish. Eight is balance between yin and yang, it represents infinity. Eight is also encourages discipline, will-power and the ability to create financial success.
Nine: Nine is the most auspicious number is feng shui as it represents completion and once there is completion a new cycle may emerge. There are nine areas in the bagua. Nine is the big picture number, it encompasses all that was. Burn nine candles to activate a specific area of the bagua, this will signal your intent to welcome new energy patterns into your life.
